Day Two

  January 2nd

"Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take My yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NIV

For years we go on, captains of our little ships, sailing in the vast oceans of our lives.  At times we cling only to planks of wood, splinters burrowing in hands.  Lips chapped and skin peeling from the sun, we brave the storms and the violent waves, often with children in tow.

We can see that steadfast, unsinkable ship across the water from us. Sometimes it seems close to us, sometimes far away.  On it are people we know, joyful and calm, often throwing us lifeboats, calling to us to come aboard.

But we don’t come aboard.  We have it covered.  We know what we are doing.  We know enough to do this alone.  We need help from no one, especially those on the ship.  It seems like all they do is try and get us onboard.  Don’t they understand we don’t want to be there? We can make up our own minds.

All the LORD asks is that we stop pretending we can be in control.  Stop rowing alongside.  Realize the times the Creator has quietly repaired our ships and left us provisions.  He never sailed away from us; we drifted from Him.  All He asks is that we step onboard and let Him do the rest.

Pray for grace to stop navigating alone.  Ask God to take your life, your past, present, and future, and be its captain.
