"The LORD has established His throne in the heavens,
and His kingdom rules over all.” Psalm 103:19
Many good, ethical, moral people do not know the
LORD. They follow some of His rules but
not all. We hear people often say, “I don’t
need a god to tell me how to be a good person” and “Being a Christian has too
many rules.” What they mean is, “I don’t
want to follow these rules. I want to do
my own thing.” Often we see just how
poorly that thought works out for us.
All the areas in our lives have a multiplicity of rules
and precepts. In relationships we do not
hit or throw things at others. When
driving we are careful to signal our intentions, go the speed limit, and wear
our seat belts. When cooking we know not
to throw a dish towel onto a hot stove burner.
We know the potential consequences.
As children we did not often understand the reasons for the boundaries
set for us.
Isn’t it freeing, knowing we have boundaries? Are you more confident, knowing other drivers
are to adhere to the same rules as you?
What is more liberating that having a rubric for your life? A lighthouse to guide your path?
Pray for grace to follow the LORD’s commandments. Ask God
to help you know more how to follow His instructions and to find joy and peace
in this structure.
